New Strides Joint Center

Our Commitment to Excellence

We are continuously evaluating and measuring our performance to ensure that we provide the highest quality care possible, tailored to each and every patient.  Our team meets regularly with a focus on maintaining clinical and service excellence in all aspects of your joint replacement experience.

If you have knee or hip pain, joint replacement surgery could help restore your independence and get you back to your daily activities.   The key to an excellent outcome is early mobility and rapid recovery, this allows select patients the opportunity to return home the same day.   At the New Strides Joint Center at  CHI Mercy Health Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, we use the best evidence-based practices to get you on the path to a healthy, pain-free lifestyle quickly.

A Team Approach to Joint Replacement

The New Strides Joint Center in Roseburg is one of the region’s most successful joint replacement programs because we rely on evidence based practices.  Studies show that complications are reduced and outcomes maximized when a joint replacement patient understands the procedure, starts physical therapy the same day as surgery, receives support from friends and family, and continues recuperating at home and with outpatient physical therapy.

When you choose the New Strides Joint Replacement Center you’ll receive:

  • Research-Based Practices: Orthopedic surgeons who use the latest evidence-based joint replacement procedures.
  • Advanced Training: Care from the clinical team of nurses and physical therapists who have advanced training in the care and rehabilitation of joint surgery patients.
  • Patient Education: You are a key member of the team! Your attendance at a pre-operative educational program 2-3 weeks prior to surgery ensures you understand the procedure and know what to expect:
    • Includes a tour of the New Strides Joint Center inside Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg
    • Provides an overview and demonstration of pre-operative exercises
    • Allows you to speak with Joint Center team members and ask questions
    • Explains the role of the personal coach (we strongly recommend coaches attend the pre-operative class for this reason)
  • Group Emphasis: Pre- and post-operative education and inpatient therapy take place in a group setting to foster support and encouragement among patients:
    • You and your coach participate in post-operative group therapy at the Joint Center
    • You and your coach are invited to attend a reunion luncheon with other patients/coaches from your group in order to share your experience with staff and physicians
  • Ongoing Support: Family members are trained to be personal coaches to help patients during the rehabilitation process and assist them at home.
  • Better Outcomes: Whenever possible, Joint Center patients are discharged 1-2 days after surgery to their homes rather than to an inpatient rehabilitation facility.
